Christmas in October

In support of our virtual club project, we organized a district-wide collection of Christmas gifts for children rescued from human trafficking sheltered in Baja California, Mexico. The shelter is ran by International Network of Hearts (INH). We gathered a list of interests for each child and created an Amazon gift registry. The gifts were given to INH at our Christmas party.

Backpacks for Students

A few of our members partnered with the elementary school district and a church to distribute donated backpacks full of school supplies to schools with low-income students. The items were donated by members of the church. The project was coordinated by the school district.

Active Learning in the South Bay

Using the Donors Choose website, our Service Committee selected local classroom projects to support at low-income schools. The projects we selected promoted active learning. This club year, we supported 7 schools and supplied them with hands-on materials to learn about food, sensory materials for preschoolers, school and art supplies, coding robots, books, solar-powered rover kits, and jumbo building blocks.

Food Drive

In honor of Hunger Awareness Month (June), members brought donations of canned food and nonperishable items to our mixer. The donations were given to a local organization, Community Through Hope, for distribution to homeless and low-income individuals and families.

Adopt-A-School – Jefferson Elementary

Due to COVID-19, the beginning of the school year is online learning for all students. In an effort to support students at home, we donated 50 pencil cases loaded with supplies, mini white board kits and other various supplies. These were distributed to all of the first grader students at the school. More information is available here – https://www.smore.com/gmj06.
