Appreciation notes to soldiers

On a Saturday in early February members and guests met in a home to create 150 cards of appreciation for active duty military . Members brought colored paper, markers, and valentine stickers. . These were mailed to A Soldiers Hands, Trish Shallenberger 2277 Oak Leaf Dr , State College, PA, 16803 to be included with kits of appreciation.

Altrusa MHC at the MHC Is For Book Lovers Event

Altrusa International of Martinsville-Henry County, VA members distributed children’s’ books at the MHC is for Book Lovers event at the Spencer-Penn Centre. It was a fun-filled day with authors, story time, crafts, and food! Thank you to the Spencer Penn Centre for sponsoring this event. We love our Community Partners.

A Second Laundromat Library Opens

Linda Dorr, from Altrusa International of MHC came by the office today and met with Melanie McLarty, Director of SBMH and Erica James, Early Literacy Coordinator. SBMH donated 50 new books to Altrusa’s “Swish, Spin, and Stories” Laundromat Library program. We are excited to see these libraries expand in our community!

Trunk Full of Books

“Swish, Spin, and Stories – A Literacy Journey”

Altrusa International of Martinsville-Henry County, VA continues with its commitment to serving our community. Each month this quarter, various members have paired up and visited the Scrub Board Laundromat to offer a “story time” for young children while their parents laundry the family’s clothes. The Club is collecting and providing PK through fifth grade books at the Laundromat. At least thirty books are replaced each month, fulfilling our goal to promote literacy by encouraging children to take a book home for reading over and over. Collected books support the International Altrusa Literacy Challenge of 500 books for literacy.

Adopt A Family – Angel Tree

Members from Altrusa International McKeesport, PA adopted a family through the Salvation Army. Members collected and delivered a “trunk full” of gifts for the family during this holiday season. #leadingtoabettercommunity #sharingiscaring

“Jack Frost Nipping at Your Toes”

Each year members of Altrusa International of McKeesport participates in the “Festival of Trees” in our community. Our Theme for this year is “Jack Frost Nipping at Your Toes.” Members collected 100 pairs of socks, which were donated to the Intersection. The Intersection provides meals for the homeless and individuals in shelters. #leadingtoabettercommunity

Wreaths Across America 2021

National Wreaths Across America Day

Each December on National Wreaths Across America Day, the organization’s mission to Remember, Honor and Teach, is carried out by coordinating wreath-laying ceremonies at Arlington National Cemetery, as well as at more than 2,500 additional locations
in all 50 U.S. states, at sea and abroad.

In recognition of this special day, members from the Altrusa Richmond Club will be placing wreaths at the Seven Pines National Cemetery in Richmond, Virginia. Members of the Altrusa International of MHC will be purchasing wreaths to be placed at the cemetery by members of the Richmond Club.

Crafty Saturday

Crafty Saturday November Meeting
Altrusans from Altrusa International of Martinsville-Henry County, Inc. Virginia had a great time putting together 20 hygiene kits and 32 baskets filled with fun sensory objects for residents at two local assisted living facilities. Dr. Nina Huff was our craft instructor. Members also included handmade cards for each basket and kit.
