Books for elementary schools

We were able to gather books from the Half Price Book Store in Rockwall, TX. We delivered them to the librarian at Rochell Elementary in Rockwall. A number of students joined us to have their picture taken with their new books. Our literacy goal is to give ‘every student a book in the Rockwall School District’.
We recently learned about the summer readying program that is put on by the district, so we will be gathering books for this needy project. NO STUDENT SHOULD GO WITHOUT A BOOK!

Remembering our Veterans

We had a work night to assemble decorative gift bags to be given to the Veterans at the Bonham Veterans home. The bags are blue with white stars. They are filled with toiletries and candy. The sugar free candies are designated with a red ribbon instead of a blue. The also have a small American flag and Forth of July pins or necklaces to wear. These will be delivered by our Altrusans the first week in July or on the Forth.

Christmas on the Farm

(Local person had the old truck created into Mater to use with any of the local community projects that involved children) Had a volunteer from the community to play Santa. MADD for Magazines

Gently used magazines will be collected from members which will be de-identified & Altrusa label placed on it that states “gift from Altrusa of The Chisholm Trail”. These magazines will be distributed to the waiting rooms of local hospitals & clinics for patients to read & take home while waiting for their appointments. This is an ongoing project.

Helping Homeless Veterans

Local VA serves about 400 homeless veterans. They need hygiene items of towels & wash cloths. 30 of each item purchased, tagged & given to coordinator for homeless VA veterans. This will improve the veteran’s ability to keep clean & hopefully prevent some illnesses.
