Our St. Paul club was asked to help the non-profit organization, Small Sums, purchase several hundred pairs of work pants for their clients. Small Sums provides homeless individuals who are starting new jobs with the clothing, tools and transportation assistance they need be successful in their new jobs. Our club was able help them with a monetary donation towards their goals. We also help with hands-on projects as a group when needed.
The St. Paul Altrusa members provided the supplies, planned, prepared and served dinner to families at the Ronald McDonald House. These families have a child in the Gillette Children’s Specialty Center at Regions Hospital.
The St. Paul Altrusa Club purchases about 200 children’s books a year for the West 7th Community Center book fair. The children can choose 2-3 new books at the book fair which is held 3 times a year.
The St. Paul Altrusa club purchases supplies and prepares over 400 sandwiches, which will be distributed by “The Sandwich Man”. This amazing man hands the sandwiches out to homeless people around the Metro area every night of the year.
The St. Paul club “adopts” a large family through Ramsey County Community Human Services for the Holidays. Each club member chooses a person in the family and shops for gifts and clothing for that member. The club also purchases grocery and other gift cards for the family.
The St. Paul Altrusa club provides lunch to the nursing assistant class at International Institute for Make A Difference Day. International Institute assists new Americans in their transition to their new homeland by providing programs and services for integration into a new community. A monetary donation is also provided to the institute.
Feed My Starving Children is an organization committed to feeding children. St. Paul club members and friends hand pack meals specifically for malnourished children, which are shipped to 70 countries. The club also gives the organization a monetary donation.
Family Place is the only day shelter for homeless families with children in Ramsey County, helping to move the families from despair to hope. Our club provides lunch for the families and gives gives monetary donation for the operation of the agency.
The Green Bay Club provides two scholarships of $1,000 each to two high school students for their college tuition. The Club also provides two scholarships of $1,000 each to two adult returning students. The recipients receive the funds upon receipt of their first semester transcripts.
The Green Bay Altrusa Club provides the refreshments for the new house dedications for Habitat for Humanity families. The Club also donates a bookcase and age appropriate books for the children in the family. Habitat dedicates an average of 12-15 homes a year in the Green Bay area.
