Make A Difference Day

Filled 65 Little Free Libraries on October 28 with1,908 books throughout San Antonio TX. Our club collected donated books from thrift stores, book stores, garage sales since July 2023. We also maintain four free little libraries our club built at local schools as well in October.

Habitat for Humanity

We supply backpacks for every child 18 and under with school supplies and books. This is for every new house dedication for Habitat for Humanity Kent County, MI. We also participate in their festivals they hold for Habitat owners where we also hand out books to children and adults.

Read-Relax-Renew

We donated four bookcases – two on the chemo floor and two to the radiation suites – to our local Cancer Center. Every month we go back to fill up the bookcases with more books and puzzles. There are leaflets telling people about Altrusa, with a QR code they can scan to our FB page. We also have signs telling them that they can “Read a book, Leave a book, Love a book, Keep a book”, as we want to encourage the sharing of the books throughout our community

Files for Life

Information cards that have a magnetic backing are provided to senior citizens in our community. The cards include information that is health related and could assist first responders in the case of an emergency

Pond Hockey Tournament

Club members support the Laura Foundation, a local nonprofit dedicated to providing recreational and social skill development activities for individuals with disabilities. We help with serving refreshments throughout the two day tournament.

Homebound book delivery

Each month our Altrusa members deliver book bags to shut ins in our community. The blue route serves 8 people with 51 books. The red route serves 7 people with 52 books and the pink route serves 14 people with 55 books. The Burlington Public Library prepare the bags. Our members take turns delivering every month and have been doing this service for many years.

Back to School Fair – Updated 2023

Back to School Fair is a special annual Altrusa event for children in Door County whose families do not have the resources to pay for school supplies and other new things. The event is a fun filled day of esteem building for these children so they can feel good about starting the new school year. Kids receive school supplies, backpacks, school spirit shirts, athletic shoes/socks, underwear, toiletries, and leisure reading books. 100 volunteers plus Altrusans partake in this enjoyable experience.
