Digital tools on the way to college

The project consisted of offering virtual workshops on applications and technological topics
once a month, in periods of 1.5 hours, free of charge to public high school students, after
school hours. The objective was to teach students going to college, the use and integration of
different digital tools that would allow them to effectively prepare their tasks and academic
presentations. We used the virtual modality because of the closure of schools due to the
COVID-19 pandemic. Twenty students were selected, as well as, the applications and topics for the workshops. We recruited professionals who donated their time to offer workshops. Eight workshops were offered: Microsoft Word; PowerPoint; Cloud; Excel; Digital portfolio; “Google Form”; Mathematical applications; and Search Engines. Task were assigned where students had to apply the skills learned. Attendance was recorded using ZOOM. As part of the project, on September 8, 2020, International Literacy Day, we broadcast through WLRP radio station a program on the topic: Digital Literacy. After evaluating the execution of the project, we quote a letter of appreciation received “…Without a doubt, something is learned every day and you have been that teaching channel for our youth, providing them with the necessary tools on their way to college, thank you! …”. A rewarding achievement marked under extraordinary circumstances as was the general lockdown in Puerto Rico due to the pandemic!
