Second Grade Literacy Incentive Program

Altrusa International Club of Clovis, NM has partnered with the District Attorney’s office supporting an attendance incentive program. Our club will extend this literacy incentive to 2nd grade students achieving promotion with steady attendance. Book selections will be made as guided by a certified librarian and 2nd grade teacher. This incentive program is for students promoted to second grade, and will occur at the beginning of the 2019-2020 school year. This project will involve a majority of club membership. It will target low-income at-risk students attending Title 1 Schools through use of books and an arts integration literacy activity to enhance the attractiveness of the books given to the students. Several of our club members are teachers, and see the need to foster literacy and attendance through personal classroom experience. We will enhance that focus by providing a literacy component tied to school attendance.
